Who am I?

Hi, I’m Harry! I started the blog because as a first time dad I found fatherhood difficult.

Being a dad is a major part of my life and like many dads I wanted to be a proactive dad but I couldn’t find many resources to learn how to be.

How did Guiding Dads begin?

A friend at work was struggling with lack of sleep. His daughter was teething and waking up frequently during the night.

I casually mentioned my own positive experience with teething powders. He had never heard about them…tried them immediately and could sleep again!

He thanked me and it felt fantastic being able to help. I wanted to empower more dads so guidingdads.com was born!

With my own experience, I wish that I was better prepared as I felt alone and lost whilst trying to help my wife through her rough pregnancy and difficult labour. Like most men, I wanted to be helpful. My intentions were in the best of places but I didn’t know where to start. Not knowing can make any man feel helpless.

Guiding my intentions

I also tried to find the best products for my then newborn daughter and I wasn’t always sure as to what was best for her. Most of the parenting and pregnancy literature is targeted at mums with just a few sections which cater to dads and mums.

There are so many men who want to be great dads but like me, don’t know where to start or what to do.

I often give new dads advice and they are grateful for the lessons that I learnt in the few years of being a dad. I thought why not impart this knowledge to other dads and in my small way help guide them. I will admit that research made me more knowledgeable and definitely helped me become a more confident and better dad.

I spent months researching prams, car seats and cots. I pre-washed every item of clothing I bought for my baby. We loved gro bags as we felt safer with her using them.

I don’t subscribe to be an expert about fatherhood as I’m definitely still learning as I navigate my way through this huge responsibility of rearing a child. Blogging about fatherhood is exciting and I love being able to share my stories.
